The Sound of You 018 Master Class on Organic Electronic Music Production with El Búho
The Sound of You returns for its 18th edition — and this month we go deep into one of the most powerful skills in the organic electronic world:
Building tracks that feel genuinely alive.
Real instruments. Organic textures. Field recordings transformed into musical material. Electronic production that honors the source.
For this special edition, we welcome El Búho — one of the most respected and beloved names in the global organic electronic scene.
Born in northern England and shaped by years of living, studying, and traveling across Latin America, Robin Perkins (aka El Búho) found his musical home in the forests, rivers, and mountains of the continent. His sound fuses the traditions of Dub, IDM, and Electronica with Latin American folk rhythms and organic textures from the natural world — creating music as entrancing through headphones as it is on the dancefloor.
His breakthrough EP Cenotes (Wonderwheel Recordings, 2015) established him as a leading voice in the emerging organic electronic scene, followed by acclaimed albums Balance (2017) and Camino de Flores (2018, Shika Shika) — a label he co-founded alongside Argentine producer Barrio Lindo. His 2021 album Ramas featured 19 cross-border collaborations with artists including Chancha Via Circuito, DJ Raff, Nickodemus, and Baiuca.
Beyond the music, El Búho is a dedicated environmental activist — formerly at Greenpeace for over eight years, a member of DJs For Climate Action, and coordinator of "A Guide to the Birdsong," a series of albums raising awareness and funds for endangered bird species through electronic music.
This masterclass is a practical look into how he builds his sound — from raw material to finished track.

What You'll Learn
Working with Organic Sound Sources
How El Búho approaches both field recordings and real acoustic instruments — flutes, percussion, strings, and more — as core musical material rather than decoration.
Sampling and Sound Design from Organic Sources
How to record, edit, and shape organic sounds into usable elements — turning a texture, a breath, or a resonance into something musical.
Building Natural-Sounding Grooves
How to construct rhythms and percussion that feel alive and human — not mechanical or over-quantized — using organic sources as the rhythmic foundation.
Layering Acoustic and Electronic Elements
How to build arrangements where real instruments and electronic production complement each other naturally, without one overpowering the other.
Live Creative Sketch
To close the session, El Búho will build a live foundational sketch in real time — showing you how a track begins to take shape from a clear creative starting point.
You'll leave with practical techniques, a broader sonic palette, and a clearer approach to integrating organic elements into your productions.
Why This Masterclass Matters
A lot of producers add organic elements as an afterthought — layering in a flute or a field recording on top of something already built.
El Búho works differently.
The organic material is the starting point. The electronic production grows around it.
This masterclass will help you:
- Work confidently with real instruments and field recordings
- Build grooves that feel organic and alive
- Integrate acoustic and electronic elements naturally
- Develop a more distinctive sound and production identity
- Understand how one of the scene's most respected artists actually works
If you want your music to feel more grounded, more human, and more distinctly yours — this is for you.

What Producers Are Saying
"J.Pool has created something really special with The Sound of You Workshops. They have given me an intimate view into the process and philosophy of one of my favorite Organic Electronic producers and performers.
Joe has shared how to get the most out of intentional and fairly minimal techniques that I tend to over-complicate, like mixing a track in Ableton Live. But even more, there were so many subjects that I didn't know I needed: creating a personal signature sound, how collaborations work, live-looping and hybrid-DJ sets, and the business side of a music career. Guest teachers gave added perspectives, and open Q&A took us into students' concerns.
If you are a music producer (or want to be) and are looking to focus on techniques that are in your genre and right to the point, I highly recommend The Sound of You."
